It's part of the celebrations to mark the 50th Anniversary of Independence.
It's estimated that nearly 100,000 nationals of Trinidad & Tobago live in various provinces and territories of Canada, with the largest concentration in Toronto.
A media release from the Consulate General Tuesday stated that the mission will select "distinguished members of the Trinidad and Tobago community throughout Canada who have achieved great success in their chosen fields and professions, and who have made the Trinidad and Tobago community proud."
It added that T&T nationals will be honoured for their contributions in Canada in the professions as well as in business, politics, law, agriculture, medicine, education, media, literature, sports and community life.
It is inviting nominations for the inclusion in a book featuring distinguished individuals. "Nominees’ notable single achievement, achievements over a period of years, or achievements over their lifetime will be key factors in their consideration," the release stated.
The criteria for nominations include:
- Excellence in the nominee's field of expertise and/or endeavours
- Persons must be born in Trinidad and Tobago who have migrated to Canada
- Nominees can also be persons of Trinidad and Tobago descent born in Canada
- Deceased persons who meet the selection criteria
- A mailing address for the nominee as well as other contact information such as a telephone number and email address
- A detailed resume/cv
- A photograph (5”x7”) of the nominee, which may be “family oriented” or one that shows the nominee in his/her area of prominence
The deadline for submission is May 18th, 2012.
