UNC Soldiers confirms list of candidates for internal election

The United National Congress (UNC) group calling itself UNC Soldiers confirmed its lineup Sunday for the party's internal election onSaturday March 24.
The slate does not have a candidate for chairman. Its candidates are:
  1. Deputy Chairman: Denise Carew
  2. Deputy Political Leader: Elizabeth Mohammed-Ali
  3. Deputy Political Leader: Sunil Ramjitsingh
  4. Policy and Strategy Officer: Amarnath (Steve) Jaggasar
  5. Education Officer: Glenda Boodram
  6. Elections Officer: Raul Henry
  7. Party Organizer: Sookram “Ultimate Selector” Ali
  8. Regional Representative North East: Vernon Nandee
  9. Regional Representative North West: Geewan Ramdeen
  10. Regional Representative Central: Krishendath Sooknanan
  11. Regional Representative South: Kenneth Paulsingh
  12. Regional Representative Tobago: Sean Dalipsingh
In a media release the group said its members "are loyal and dedicated foot soldiers of the party who have labored in the trenches...in pursuit of the mission of the UNC which is to give Trinidad and Tobago governance built on the principles of Love, Unity, Brotherhood, Inclusion, Social Justice and Equity."

The group said its goal is to build and strengthen the UNC party by:

  • Strengthening the units and organs of the party through the party group structure and constituency executives in all 41 constituencies
  • Closing the communications gap between the ground troops and the executive management of the party, and thereby strengthening the communication link between the member and the government
  • Involving the rank and file membership and supporters in the governance process for the benefit of the government, the people and the party
  • Educating the membership in the importance of involvement in politics and the functioning of the UNC party and constitution
  • Implementing a system that will promote greater performance from elected and appointed members of Parliament and regional corporations
  • Embarking on a process of reform of the UNC’s Constitutional to give greater influence to the membership and units in the selection of candidates for Local Government and General Elections
  • Enforcing and implementing the provisions of a revised UNC Constitution to ensure optimum transparency and accountability in party matters
