Jack Warner accused popular radio personality George Umbala Joseph of slander Sunday night, stating that Umbala had a person on his radio show on 104.7fm impersonate Warner.
The chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) was speaking at a political meeting in Rio Claro in his bid to win re-election in next Saturday's internal election. He called the incident a part of the "dirty tricks" for the election.
Warner said while he was at home preparing his speech for the meeting he heard a man purporting to be Jack Warner being interviewed by Umbala. He said he was shocked since he knew that it could not be him.
To illustrate the point he played a clip from the program with the voice of a man mimicking Warner, talking optimistically about the election. The alleged impersonator sounded like Warner.
The Works Minister said he called the radio station and lodged a complaint and also spoke with his lawyers, who are going to take up the matter in court. "We will deal with that in court onMonday,"Warner said.
