$30M e-Teck lawsuit goes to court

A judge will hear legal arguments in Port of Spain Friday in the $30 million lawsuit against six former members of the Evolving Technologies and Enterprise Development Company Ltd (e-TecK).

Members of the board under the previous Manning PMNMAdministration signed a contract with China-based company, Bamboo Networks Limited. The state is seeking payment of damages in relation to the US$5 million (TT$30 million) investment which was made by the board on or about June 23, 2005.

Attorney General Anand Ramlogan announced the lawsuit against the e-Teck board members on June 16 last year.

The parties listed in the matter are former chairman Dr Ken Julien and former directors Dr Rene Monteil, Dr Brian Copeland, Ulric Mc Nicol, Eugene Tiah and Sonia Noel.
The pre-action protocol letter sent to the board members last year stated that the investment was part of plans to develop e-TecK’s information technology (IT) business venture.

The State has also alleged that the contract with the company was signed by the board even though it had been advised about the poor financial state of the company, its short track record and lack of proper management structure.
