Chaguanas West plans 50 days of celebration to mark T&T's golden jubilee

Jack Warner has written Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar advising her of what his Chaguanas West constituency is doing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Trinidad & Tobago's independence.

The plan  is for 50 days of activities.  He said a planning committee has already been established and a meeting of all stakeholders will be held later this week.

Among activities planned are:
  • essay writing competitions
  • a sports festival
  • visits to historical sites across the country
  • debates
  • a 50-over cricket match
  • a 50-minute football match
  • a 50-round All Fours competition
  • a constituency choir convention
With respect to the choir convention, the Works and Infrastructure Minister and Chairman of the UNC said choirs within Chaguanas West will be invited "to provide the best rendition of one of our national songs such as God bless Our nation and Come Come Away just to name two."

He said the celebration would culminate with an evening with Machel on 20 September 2012. In addition 50 icons in Chaguanas West who spanned the period 1962 - 2012 will also receive tokens of appreciation, warner said.

Warner told the Prime Minister the purpose of this journey "is to venture into nostalgia and remind my constituents of the importance of the significant landmark of Independence to the success, growth and sustainable development of any nation state.

"In this regard, I wish to inform you officially concerning this thrust as Chaguanas West Constituency moves aggressively to consolidate and continue the growth of the UNC family around the theme of Fifty Years of Independence 2012."
