Gunmen murdered two Laventille men Thursday in Laventille. Their murders and the killing of another man the day before brought the year's homicide total to 339. There were 473 murders in 2010.
The Guardian newspaper reported that Kirt Medina, 23, and Quincy Porter, 22, were killed while asleep in their apartments.
Police held emergency meetings during the day to deal with the rise in murders since the end of the state of emergency, which they attribute to gang-related violence.
Another media report said seven suspects fled the scene of the latest the killings, citing police sources.
The Guardian newspaper reported that Kirt Medina, 23, and Quincy Porter, 22, were killed while asleep in their apartments.
The paper said gunmen stormed the fourth floor apartment early in the morning, where Medina was asleep with his pregnant girlfriend and shot him 10 times. She escaped by hiding a bathroom. The other victim was shot and killed as he slept in his apartment on the second floor of the building.
The Guardian said Porter was last of 10 children in his family and his father said his son's killer would be dead in nine days. The paper quoted him as saying, "I know where to go for them."
