State offers no evidence, "Robocop" freed on murder charge

Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis is a free man.

The state failed to present any evidence when his murder case came up Friday at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court, so the magistrate dismissed the murder case against him.

He was charged with the murder of Vincent Emmanuel Simmons in 2008.

When the matter was called state prosecutor George Busby informed the magistrate that the State would not be offering evidence.

Once the authorities determined that there were no other matters pending against him, Alexis was allowed to leave.

In a statement to the media, Alexis expressed thanks for getting his freedom. "I will like to thank the DPP and some members of the Police Service who did what was right in this matter," he told the Guardian newspaper.

He also served notice that he plans to sue the State.

Alexis was arrested at his posh apartment at One Woodbrook Place on August 30 after several days of surveillance. He claimed that his arrest was politically motivated.
