AG to sue Rowley over comments made at media conference

Attorney General Anand Ramlogan plans to sue Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley.

The action comes on the heels of comments by Rowley about the quashing of an extradition order signed by Ramlogan to send businessmen Ish Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson to the US to face criminal charges.

Both men challenged the decision and sought legal redress. Earlier this week the High Court quashed the order.

In reacting to it Rowley suggested that the justice was the casualty in the matter and stated that Ramlogan got the result he wanted.

Ramlogan reacted by writing to the Chief Justice, Director of Public Prosecution and the Law Association about Rowley's conduct, which he said was inappropriate. On Friday he took one step further.

"I do intend to sue Dr Rowley for defamation arising out of that newspaper report where he alleged that there was some sort of political conspiracy between the judge that decided the Galbaransingh and Ferguson case and the Office of the Attorney General," Ramlogan said.

He added, "I think it is a scandalous, malicious, wicked allegation and it is one that has brought his office into great disrepute."
