Rowley ready for his turn before Privileges Committee, plans to apologise

Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley told reporters Monday he is prepared to appear before the Committee of Privileges to answer the charge of deliberately misleading the House of Representatives.

Last Friday House Speaker Wade Mark sent the PNM leader before the commitee for remarks he made about Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.

Rowley charged that Ramlogan visited a Trinidad and Tobago diplomatic office in New York and suggested that there was an ethnic imbalance at the office that should change.

He said that he was told that by office staff and insisted that he stands by his accusation although the government provided documentary evidence that Ramlogan never went to New York since taking office.

Mark said based on the information before him his conclusion was that a prima facie case was made out against Rowley for misleading the House at a sitting on April 20.

Speaking at a news conference, Rowley said that he would apologise at the appropriate time.

Rowley said he has been conducting “very detailed investigations on the matter and at this moment I can tell that there is some confusion with the facts.”

He said: “At the appropriate time, the correct information and any relevant apologies would be forthcoming.”
