The Trinidad Express newspaper reported Tuesday that police have questioned one of their own officers in the death of eight-year-old Daniel Guerra of Gasparillo.
Daniel's parents reported him missing on Friday. On Sunday police found his body in a river near the Taruba stadium.
According to the paper, the officer - a detective constable - was allegedly involved in a failed relationship with a relative of the child. It said investigators have seized a silver-coloured Nissan Almera.
The paper said police seized the rental vehicle at Duncan Village, La Romaine, on Sunday night and sent it to the Special Anti Crime lab in Cumuto on Monday to be examined by forensic officers. Witnesses reported seeing the boy getting into a silver-coloured vehicle.
The paper said police also returned to the river where the child's body was located to look for clues. An autoposy scheduled for Tuesday could provide additional data for investigators.
