Don't worry. It's going to be a safe Carnival.
That's the assurance that senior Government and Police Service officials gave on Monday at a media briefing at the Hyatt in Port of Spain.
Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Suruj Rambachan said new measures will be in place to ensure that everyone is safe.
“There will be a special telephone number during Carnival, manned by several operators. It would be made available to visitors and tour operators as they come into TT or even as they board planes where there are large sections of the (TT) diaspora,” he said.
Rambachan said visitors would be able to dial that number to reach Visitor Customer Service Representatives, who would be able to keep in close contact with officials at the two main Carnival centres. He promised a quick response.
The minister also said there will be highly conspicuous street guides all over the Port of Spain and San Fernando who would have direct links to information booths.
"In all ways possible, a visitor can feel safe, secure and that something is happening on his or her behalf,” Rambachan said.
Caribbean Airlines will include as part of its in-flight service, details of the safety plan to offer passengers information on safety measures for Carnival 2011.
