The announcement was made in a media release Monday from the Office of the Prime Minister. Housing and Environment Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal said the meeting is not a reaction to tuesday's labour demonstration, noting that it was planned since last year to discuss the government's plans for 201.
Moonilal told local media the caucus will review several policy issues and develop strategies that will allow Government “to hit the ground running,” in keeping with the Prime Minister’s directives to 'deliver, deliver, deliver' in 2011.
The agenda issues include crime and the economy. He confirmed at all People's partnership MPs and Senators will attend. He said Government is considering a reviewing of its policies twice a year to ensure they are working effectively.
Moonilal dismissed reports of tensions in the Partnership, saying it is natural for there to be differences of opinion in a coalition that comprises five political parties. “The Partnership is strong and the Government is quite healthy,” he declared. He said all five leaders will be attending the caucus meeting.
