Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner said on Monday national contractors must earn the right to get work on Government’s major construction projects over the next few years.
And he said local contractors are likely to get at least 40 per cent of the work on the $5 billion Point Fortin to San Fernando Highway construction project, which is scheduled to begin this month.
Warner made the comments following a visit to the Coosal’s Industrial Complex in central Trinidad. He said the contractors who deserve the work would get it, noting that Coosal is one of the contractors that has earned the right to get contracts on the project.
Warner said the technical team from his ministry that toured the plant with him to get a first hand view of the physical resources there was impressed by what they saw at the plant.
