The Chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) has written to his counterpart in the Congress of the People (COP), Joseph Toney, asking for a meeting to discuss political matters.
Some COP have publicly stated that their party is not getting fair and equal treatment from the People's Partnership.
Jack Warner's letter follows a report in the Trinidad Express which quoted the Works and Transport Minister as saying that in his "humble view" COP members "are opposing the Partnership Government with almost every issue and they are embarrassing their leader most times. I think that is wrong and I think that needs to be corrected".
He said that was his "personal opinion" as chairman of the UNC. "I know people are quick to rush to jump to conclusions and that is why I was specific and that is why anybody who believes what I say is not true fine, I have no problem with that".
Warner said he did not speak with COP leader Winston Dookeran about the issue, adding that it is better to deal with the matter with the party's chairman.
"I have cancelled my flight to Qatar. I am now available and I can meet with him (Toney) anytime but we have to meet very early...The chairman of the COP must meet the chairman of the UNC, the two major parties and let us find out what the issues are...
"Who outside there want to make kuchoor, make kuchoor, I have no problem with that but we will be better off if we sit down like big people and expose what the issues are and discuss them and then as two chairmen, go to our parties and tell them what is happening," he said.
Warner insisted that there are no problems in the People's Partnership Government. "Absolutely not", he said. "We are far from that."
