Gang leader murdered in daylight shooting days after release from jail

A known gang leader was was released from prison last Thursday was shot and killed in Fyzabad, south Trinidad Monday afternoon in a brazen daylight killing.

Media reports say Kelon Reece was a gang leader and drug dealer. His assailants struck just before two in the afternoon while Reece and his neighbour, Richard Quarterless, were repairing a window in Reece's car.

The reports quote police a man walked up to them and started firing at them before running off and escaping in a waiting car. Reece died on the spot; Quarterless was seriously injured and is in hospital in a critical condition.

Selwyn Reece, the dead man’s father, said he never meddled in his son’s life and feared that something terrible would happen to him because of his life of crime. Police said Reece had several pending matters and previous convictions for drug possession, armed robbery, shooting with intent and attempted murder.

So far police have not arrested anyone.
