Feature: CEPEP gets into food production sector

The CEPEP Company Limited has partnered with the Ministry of Food Production through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as a step to alleviate labour shortage issues in the agricultural sector. The signing took place on Monday 1 July 2013 at the Ministry of Food Production Head Office, St. Clair Circle, St. Clair.

The partnership involves the development of a strategic relationship between The CEPEP Company Limited and the Ministry of Food Production, to facilitate efficient food production and food security for a sustainable agricultural sector through the provision of skilled labour. 

According to Senator the Honourable Devant Maharaj, Minister of Food Production, “This is an answer really to a call by the agricultural community across the length and breadth of Trinidad and Tobago, where there is a dire shortage of labour.”

The MoU brings into fruition one of important components of the CEPEP Programme which is the purposeful training of the Nation’s human resource to mitigate existing social and economic problems. 

The CEPEP Company Limited has recognized the need for training and development of its Contractor workforce as a means of capacity building and a mechanism for adding value to the society. 

According to Adesh Deonarine, Chairman of The CEPEP Company Limited, “We are training workers so at the end of their three year stint with the programme, they are marketable and equipped with the necessary skills to secure gainful employment and assist in the development of the public and private sectors.”

As an Agency of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Marine Affairs, The CEPEP Company Limited continues its effort to build successful community-based business models and sustainable environmental projects, to satisfy its role as one of the main pillars in the National strategy for development of the Green Economy of Trinidad and Tobago.
