Photo story: Glenn walks among the people

Minister of the People and Social Development Dr.Glenn Ramadharsingh took his Direct Effect campaign to the people of the Chickland area in his Caroni Central constituency on Saturday.

It coincided with the global celebration of International Women's Day. And the minister took the opportunity to call for an end to violence against women. "We as a community, a society, a nation and a people must join hands in protecting our women folk from violence in whatever fashion it may be perpetrated against them, whether it be physical, mental or emotional," Ramadharsingh said.

He added, "The country’s women continue to be the building blocks and the foundation stones upon which our society is nurtured, and so we must hold them up in high esteem, with the greatest of respect”.

He cited Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar as the perfect role model and fighter for women's rights. "She has led by example in establishing a Ministry of Gender Affairs, a Ministry of the People, the Children’s Life Fund, rewarding every SEA child with a laptop thereby creating a world of educational opportunities for every child", Ramadharsingh said.
