PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar is greeted by Chief Secretary Orville London on her arrival in Tobago for the formal inauguration of the THA |
London requested the meeting to discuss several critical issues of concern to Tobago. The Guardian newspaper said the agenda will include:
- The collaboration of the Central Government in the revitalisation of the Tobago economy
- A review of the relationship between ministers of Government and secretaries in the THA
- Funding for housing programmes in Tobago
- The appointment of THA nominees to State boards and commissions to deal with issues of a Tobago nature which required an input from the assembly
One of the matters of concern for London is the self government bill that was debated in parliament in January. London wants the government return to discussion and negotiation with the THA.
During the THA election, which the People's National Movement (PNM) won 12-0, Persad-Bissessar declared the vote a referendum on self government for Tobago.
