Poll suggests majority of citizens oppose national strike, favour negotiations

A new public opinion poll published in the Guardian newspaper suggests that the majority of citizens of Trinidad and Tobago oppose a national strike.

In addition the NACTA poll says people are overwhelmingly opposed to the declaration of “war” issued by unions against the Government, which they say is tantamount to a declaration of war against the nation.

The survey suggests that citizens want the Government and the unions to negotiate to prevent any strike.

It further suggests that the view of citizens is that any national shutdown would cause serious damage to the fragile economy and hurt its chances of quick recovery.

Many of the poll’s respondents feel in light of the current economic slump and flat economy, workers should not be making demands that will hurt economic recovery.

NACTA interview 300 people.
