Housing Minister Roodal Moonilal during a walkabout in Phillipine Sunday
Roodal Moonilal added his voice Sunday to clarify the appointment of a special interministerial committee to oversee construction of the $7.;2 billion highway from Golconda to Point Fortin.

The housing minister and MP for Oropuche East in a member of the committee. There are suggestions that cabinet moved to set up the committee because it has concerns about Works and Infratstructure Minister Jack Warner.

Moonilal was emphatic that that was not the case and made it clear that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has full confidence in Warner.

He was speaking with reporters during a walkabout in Phillipine. He explained that the Point Fortin project "is probably one of the biggest and the most expensive in our history and it involves over 10,000 residents and hundreds of communities."

Moonilal added that the aim of the committee is to ensure that MPs "are involved and we participate in setting the guidelines and in doing the oversight work.”

Warner is also a member of the committee, which is to be headed by the Prime Minister. Warner has stated that he has no problem with it. However media have been speculating that the PM acted because of a lack of confidence in Warner.

Moonilal stated that there is no question of Warner’s capabilities as Works and Infrastructure Minister.

“Mr Warner is a very energetic man and continues to do a lot of good work,” Moonilal said.
