Jack Warner flew to Point Fortin by helicopter Friday and got protesters to willingly reopen all blocked roads to allow traffic to flow freely into the city.
The people in the area had set up burning barricades along roads leading into Point Fortin to dramatize their concerns.
The action was reported to be a joint effort of two PNM-held constituencies, Point Fortin and La Brea. Media reports say the protests were supported by Point Fortin MP, Paul Gopee Scoon.
The MP has written to government asking for urgent attention to poor roads and insufficient water supplies in the area.
Warner went to see for himself and held a meeting with stakeholders to discuss the problems and find solutions.
In an email to JYOTI, he stated:
"I have just returned from Pt Fortin having met with all the protesters and stakeholders including His Worship the Mayor and the leadership of the Pt Fortin Taxi Drivers' Association.
"I have assured them that work will begin on the roads in two weeks time and, moreover, that I will consult the relevant Ministers relative to their problems with the lack of CEPEP work and the start of their hospital.
"Following this all the blocked roads were willingly cleared by the protesters and traffic is flowing freely once again."
