Dear Sir,
I wish to express my dissatisfaction at the misleading article titled “Kamla snubs Jack’s Pundit” published on Page 3 of the TnT Mirror of Friday August 12, 2011.
The author of the article, Mr. Azad Ali wrote that “Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar reportedly snubbed Hindu spiritual leader Swami Chadradhari (also known as Swami Ji) who was brought to Trinidad from New Jersey by Works Minister Jack Warner".
In my attempt to assist you in the publication of facts and truth, I have attached for your consideration a picture of the Honourable Prime Minister, majestically poised between the world renowned Swami and me.
What makes this article distasteful is not merely the absence of facts but the continuation of what seems to be a conspiracy by some media houses to concoct, through mischief, a discourse that suggests that all is not well within the People’s Partnership by setting up an adversarial relationship between the Prime Minister and me.
Misrepresentation of statements I have made, misinterpretation of sound bites I have offered, sensational headlines of stories in which I am mentioned seem to be the order of the day while journalists deliberately abdicate their responsibility to provide free and fair reporting on matters of national interest.
There was once a time when journalists functioned to inform, educate and entertain but certainly such cherished objectives have disappeared.
It is against that backdrop that I am seeking a correction to your story and I do sincerely hope that Mr. Ali abides by the cherished codes of his profession to simply present the facts and not fall into the mediocrity of prefabricating his own.
I thank you.
With kindest regards
