Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs said Friday the threat by police to stay away from work on Monday will not affect the inroads the force has been making in the bringing down the number of murders in the country.
Gibbs spoke with reporters who accompanied Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on her walkabout in Port of spain.
"In terms of the labour situation, in terms of all the different things that are going on, we have put in a lot of different measures so that we can certainly continue making inroads to bring down the crime rates. That includes homicide," Gibbs said.
The Commissioner said local law enforcement can learn lessons from the riots that have taken place in London over the past few days.
"We can learn a lot from their experience. Their experience as well as in other countries as to how we need to police. Again, it helps us ready for any impending strike action, any sickouts that may occur."
The Commissioner said a series of police exercises started Friday aimed at taking criminals off the streets. However he gave the assurance that the nation is not under a police lockdown.
