Jack Warner told reporters Tuesday his ministry cannot start building retention ponds in Port of Spain before March next year. The Works and Transport Minister has promised to build the ponds to help with the city's flooding problems.
He said engineers for the Port of Spain City Corporation and the Ministry of Works are currently working together to put together the plans for the ponds and other works to deal with flooding.
Warner said officials have already identified sites where they will build the ponds, including one site behind the Lighthouse.
"We know where the water courses are. We are going to clean them. We are going to have pumps that will pump the water and know how many gallons per minute. Things are in train," he said.
He also said that no company has been identified for the project so far. "No one company has been given the contract...We have to put it out to tender. It would be an open tender for the best bidder."
