Authorities holding public consultation on highway construction Wednesday

The Ministry of Works and Transport and the National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO) are holding a Public Consultation Wednesday at the Debe High School starting at 6.00 pm regarding the proposed San Fernando to Point Fortin Highway.

The new highway comprises several segments:
  • Golconda to Debe
  • Debe to San Francique Road with a connector road to Penal
  • San Francique Road to Siparia Road with a connector road to Siparia
  • Siparia Road to Delhi Road with a connector road to Fyzabad
  • Delhi Road to Southern Main Road at Vance River with a connector road to La Brea 
  • Southern Main Road at Vance River to Dunlop Roundabout, Point Fortin
  • Upgrade/widening of the South Trunk Road from Paria Suites to St. Mary’s Junction via Mosquito Creek
  • A new highway from St. Mary’s Junction to Delhi Road
The consultation on Wednesday is for the segments between San Fernando and Delhi Road. 

The two organisations have asked persons whose properties or communities are might be affected by the highway construction to attend.

The main objectives of the consultation are to receive feedback from the communities along the route and to provide information to affected persons.

In other transport related news, NIDCO and works ministry are commissioning four new fast ferries on Friday afternoon for use in the Water Taxi Service.

The Ceremony will take place at Breakfast Shed on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain at 10 in the morning. 

NIDCO says among the dignitaries expected to attend are Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner.

The new ferries - the Calypso Sprinter, Trini Flash, Paria Bullet and the Carnival Runner - arrived in Trinidad last month.
