Spranalang is special adviser to multicultural minister

Dennis “Sprangalang” Hall is going to be special adviser to Multicultural Minister Winston “Gypsy” Peters.

"Sprang" is one of the best known personalities in the field of arts and culture in Trinidad and Tobago.

Government sources say he will get his letter of appointment when Peters returns from his official visit to New York, Newsday reported Friday.

Newsday quoted the comedian as saying that both Peters and Finance Minister Winston Dookeran asked him if he was willing to serve.

“I expressed willingness to serve, but at the same time, made it clear that some drastic changes need to be made in the Ministry for the benefit of all the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

He told the paper the former minister, Marlene McDonald, lacked a vision for the culture ministry, and did nothing to benefit the people.

He said he would recommend that the government reinstate the National Carnival Commission which was disbanded by the Manning administration. He also wants to see the commission involved with community festivals throughout the country.

Sprang also favours a National Archives, which could be easily accessible to citizens who wish to contribute in the field of arts and culture. And he wants every community to get involved in the local talent in their respective communities.

He believes that could become a showcase of local talent and a major tourist attraction.
