Picture story: Images of Pakistan's misery

(A Pakistani soldier hands over a baby as villagers try to get to safety)

The monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused some of the country's worst flooding in decades. Entire villages have been washed aways, hundreds have been killed and more than four million displaced.

The floods have inundated crop-producing areas, dealing a crippling blow to the agricultural-based economy and threatening a food crisis.

The Pakistani government is struggling to rescue millions. This collection of 41 photos from the online site Boston.com on August 6, 2010 gives a graphic snapshot of the problem.
