Finance Minister Winston Dookeran will act as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago while Kamla Persad-Bissessar is away in New York, Press Secretary Gavin Nicholas told reporters Tuesday.
The Prime Minister will the guest of honour at at India Day parade on August 15 in the United States celebrating India's 63rd anniversary of independence from Britian. Organisers of the march are honouring her for her achievements and because of her Indian roots.

This is Persad-Bissessar's second official trip overseas since taking office. Works Minister Jack Warner acted for her when she attended the CARICOM summit and visited Florida in July.
