Keeping count: 195 murders to date in TT for 2010

A 41-year-old mother of two who had obtained a restraining order against her attacker was murdered Monday.

A police report said Isha ’Babe’ Hosein, 41, was stabbed three times at her sister’s home. The 43-year-old suspect then climbed a fence and fled. A media report said the suspect later called the police to say he was going to commit suicide.

He is still at large.

Isha is only one of the victims so far this year. Last Friday, a 20-year-old mother of two was shot and killed in Laventille. A young father of one also died in the attack at a wake. And a family of five died Sunday in a fire and explosion; police now said their deaths are classified as murder.

The governing People's National Movement (PNM) has stated that it will deal with the crime problem if it is re-elected.

National Security Minister Martin Joseph said last week his government
recognises and admits that crime is the number one issue in the election.

"Those opposed to us want to make it the only issue, over the next two weeks they going to bombard you," he said.

"They go say Manning must go because of crime. Tell them they must go because your Government is putting measures in place to deal with crime," Joseph declared.

He added, "The war against illegal drugs and guns will continue...your PNM government will not waiver, will not flinch from these responsibilities."
