A vehicle owned by UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar was stolen Friday at the Centre of Excellence.
A spokesperson for Persad-Bissessar told JYOTI it happened at about 2.30 p.m. shortly after the launch of the People's Partnership's manifesto for the May 24 general election.
She said Persad-Bissessar's niece and the driver of the vehicle were in the car at the time in the Toyota PRADO vehicle PCJ 3. They were robbed, but they are OK.
The assailants were in a silver Nissan Almera vehicle with the registration plate PCH 8663.
Persad-Bissessar was not harmed. Police are investigating.
Speaking about the incident at a political meeting in her home constituency Friday night she said the vehicle was found abandoned and all her confidential documents were missing.
She said nothing else was taken.
She said the incident was traumatic for everyone and noted that it is typical of what occurs across the country every single day.
"The matter may gain greater importance because it happened to be the official vehicle of the Political Leader but these experiences are what have unfortunately become the sad state of affairs in the nation where no one can take their personal safety and that of their family for granted," she said.
Persad Bissessar said she did not wish to personalize the incident since it is no different from what her fellow citizens have to endure.
