No need for investigation of Arima church: AG

The Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago told local media Wednesday there is no need to investigate a controversial church under construction at the Heights of Guanapo.

John Jeremie told as far as he knows the Lighthouse of the Lord Jesus Christ is a private institution. He also
dismissed concerns that Shanghai Construction Group is involved in the project. The company is in the country on a Government to Government arrangement working on public sector.

Jeremie said, "I cannot "at this time see the need to investigate a private entity in respect to the use of private contractors."

However he said if the Director of Public Prosecutions wants to investigate the matter all he has to do is ask the police chief to begin an investigation.

The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation has said as far the builders did not have authorization from the relevant government agencies to construct the church, which has been linked to Prime Minister Patrick Manning and his spiritual adviser Juliana Pena.

Last month, the CEO of the Corporation said she would give the builders seven days to explain why they were going ahead with the project without authorization and even threatened to demolish the structure.

This week she was promoted to a parallel position at the Port of Spain City Corporation but the Mayor of Port of Spain said it had nothing to do with her stand on the church.

Manning said in Parliament last month that he did not own the church and no State funds were being used in its construction.

In a 54-minute speech he said Cabinet had approved a lease for the State lands to build the church and charged that the Full Gospel movement in Trinidad and Tobago was under attack.

He also challenged two journalists covering the story to write about
"a spiritual experience the likes of which they never had before."

there he goes again, and after a couple of years these idiots would come and say that they would investigate, when people bring out the facts relating to corruption.
