Deputy House Speaker Pennelope Beckles is not supporting an opposition motion against Prime Minister Patrick Manning.
The motion by opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is scheduled for debate before the end of the month. There had been speculation that the Arima MP would support the motion after she endorsed the new opposition leader in a speech at a women’s function last Sunday.
She commended Persad-Bissessar in the context of her achievement as a woman in the recent UNC election victory.
Beckles will likely preside over the debate. She is acting for Speaker Barendra Sinanan until March 24. She will also be in the Speaker's chair for Friday's debate concerning UDeCOTT.
The UNC motion calls for the immediate resignation of all members of the UDeCOTT board.
