Tunapuna/Piarco CEO transferred: Report

A radio report from Trinidad states that the Chief Executive Officer of the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation has been transferred from her post.

The report said that Winifred David has taken up the post of CEO of The Port of Spain City Corporation. Marva Carter is the new CEO at the Tunapuna/ Piarco Regional Corporation.

David had threatened to stop construction of the controversial church on the Heights of Guanapo, in Arima.
The church is linked to Prime Minister Patrick Manning’s spiritual adviser, Reverend Juliana Pena.

On February 25 David said officials would give contractors building The Light of the Light House of the Lord Jesus Christ seven days to explain why they were continuing construction of the building without approval.

“The usual procedure is to give them notice, asking them why the development is continuing...after that there is a process of seven days, if they do not stop the work, we then come back to council and get an order for demolition,” David told local media.

"I have a person who has to report it to me and when I get that document, I will sign off on it,” she told the Trinidad Guardian.

David explained that the corporation had not received documentation from the Town and Country Planning Division for the construction of the church. She said the corporation gives final approval to go ahead and build, based on the recommendation from Town and Country.

She told the paper she is not unable to say if officials at the Town and Country Planning Division had any documents relating to the project.

Commenting on David's move, Port-of-Spain Mayor Murchinson Brown said the transfer did not have antything to do with comments she made on the Heights of Guanapo church.

He told the Newsday newspaper, “David was earmarked for transfer to the Port-of-Spain City Corporation since January, and when the CEO of this corporation went on pre-retirement leave a vacancy existed and David was moved here to fill that vacancy."

This morning the chairman TPRC indicated that Ms. David did not say she would shut down the project, but she also indicated, when questioned, that once town and country does not provide the relevant approvals to the co-operation, then the building cannot proceed. But the worrying issue is that the Chairman claimed that the reporter write what she wanted write. Now this is instructive, she painted the media as being irresponsible, but from her own words I gather the very said thing, i.e. there can be no construction without town and country granting approval and sending those approval to the coperation. I am alone here or is something not tight with this spin. I am confident that Ms. David was in fact victimised for her statement.
