In conducting the post mortem of the recent United National Congress (UNC) internal elections, several political pathologists have discovered that the Congress of The People [COTP] is rapidly deteriorating into a vestigial state - by the thousands, its members are returning (or publicly opining that soon, very soon, they shall).
And why shouldn't they? For the COP was nothing but a mirage, a delusion born of thousands of minds grown comprehensively-parched under many years of Panday's blistering leadership style - a style that took thirty years to take them into the Promised Land and a mere six back out of it.
As with such illusions, those on a journey through the desert would perk up on seeing them. But the seasoned campaigner would at once recognize what truly they are, thus would quickly check himself.
You see, a mirage offers no thirst-slaking opportunity, rather, appeasement as appealing as the fire is to the frying-pan bound. Thus, of those who had long thirsted for a new UNC leadership, only the uninitiated or self-deluded couldn't restrain themselves till the real quencher appeared.
One would have thought that, having futilely swallowed copious dirt in 2007, COTP adherents would have there and then come to their senses. A few did. Most, not...till January 24, 2010 ended and the oasis loomed large before them.
Yet, as is the sad case with so many leaders who choose aloofness over reality, those holding the COP's reins keep insisting that the COP is here to stay,
At another time and place such resoluteness would be an admirable trait. Such time and place have passed, as, verily, it existed merely to serve the same purpose as the Movement for Change did.
We have now entered the ABP era. The era of those adept at political cut-up is gone. COP, thus, is what said pathologists have been reporting it to be. If COP's leaders don't understand that their followers have already taken in front, then, I'm afraid, COP and its leaders shall end up in the same miragulous state of haplessness as the National Alliance for Reconstruction has.

I agree, we must remember that the COP was formed because of Panday's treatment of Dookeran, now that Panday is no longer leader of the UNC, there is logically no need for the COP, unless!!!, unless Panday was in fact right when he claimed that some are intent on hijacking the UNC. To not return to the folds of the UNC would be an instructive move by the COP, at least from the level of the rank and file of the COP - they should return to the UNC.
