Fifteen Trinidad and Tobago police officers assigned to the St Joseph CID are facing transfer in connection with the discovery of guns, ammunition and drugs - cocaine and marijuana - hidden in a ceiling and the dormitory area at the St Joseph Police Station.
Local media reports say Acting Police Commissioner, James Philbert has launched a high-scale probe into the incident.
They say a team of officers from the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) went to the station Saturday and conducted several searches while the station remained locked down. Intelligence officers questioned several officers in connection with the matter, the reports say.
Cable News Channel Three news (CNC3) reported that Philbert confirmed the incident and said there have been irregularities at the station "for some time".
The reports say it appears the weapons and drugs were not part of the exhibits for court cases since checks revealed that there was nothing missing from the evidence room.
