The United National Congress joins the rest of the nation in mourning the death of former President Arthur N.R. Robinson, who passed away on Wednesday morning. In a media release, our leader, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar stated, “We have lost one of our nation’s outstanding sons.”
She added, “It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of former President and Prime Minister, His Excellency, Arthur NR Robinson this morning.”
Mr. Robinson had the distinction of being chairman of the Tobago House of Assembly, Prime Minister and President, the only citizen to ever hold top positions at three levels of government. He was also the UNC’s coalition partner in the 1995 government, led by our founding leader, former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday.
Born in Tobago, Mr. Robinson remained a proud son of the island, and in appreciation of his service to Tobago and our country, our leader honoured him by renaming the Crown Point Airport the A.N.R. Robinson International Airport.
The leadership of the UNC, on behalf of all its members, extends sincere condolences to Mr. Robinson’s daughter, Margaret Ann, and other members of the family. May his soul rest in peace.
