ILP extends coldolences on passing of ANR Robinson

On behalf of the Executive and membership of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP), and on behalf of my family and me, I extend condolences to the family and relatives of former President and former Prime Minister ANR Robinson on the passing of His Excellency.

Former President Robinson will be remembered as one of the most influential persons in this country’s history. He stood out as the individual who time and time again was placed in circumstances where he had very difficult decisions to make under very challenging circumstances - whether it was standing up to the armed insurrectionists in 1990 or selecting a Prime Minister during the 2001 18-18 election deadlock.

Former President Robinson's political career is characterized by many "firsts" that drove the process of political evolution both in Trinidad and in Tobago, from his election to the Federal Parliament of the now defunct Caribbean Federation in 1958, to leading the first political movement to dethrone the People's National Movement in 1986, to being the first active politician to be elected to the presidency in 1997.

Internationally, former President Robinson is recognized for his role in the establishment of the International Criminal Court of Justice.

Former President Robinson's life exemplifies the adage that anyone can aspire to the heavens, having come from humble beginnings in Castara, Tobago, and impacting on the course of this nation and world affairs.

Jack Warner | Political Leader, Independent Liberal Party
