NATEX meeting Wednesday 05 February 2014 |
This year the Party will celebrate its 25th Anniversary. The party has been of the view that the Constitution must reflect the modern day political realities as well as make provision for the new political dynamics which have emerged especially since its assumption of office as Government on May 24th 2010.
With respect to the 25th Anniversary, a committee has been appointed to plan a week of activities to celebrate this significant occasion. Natex noted that the U.N.C has achieved sustainability because of the quality of leadership that has been given to the Country and the policies and programmes which have affected the overall quality of life in Trinidad and Tobago and the region. The party will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on April 24th.
Natex expressed its satisfaction with the work of the Constituency Executives who have been organizing the ground troops both in support of the party and the Government. In this regard new party groups have been formed in the Constituencies. All these groups will be installed over the next few weeks beginning with the Constituency of St. Joseph. In St. Joseph fifteen (15) new party groups have been formed. This installation will be addressed by the Political leader and Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Natex also approved several programmes to be implemented by the Youth Arm of the party including the introduction of a life academy providing for the development of life skills for young people. The youth arm will also be hosting a country wide marathon to recognise and pay tribute to its thousands of supporters who have supported the party and brought it into Government. An Inter-Constituency cricket competition will also be launched this year.
In view of the need to ensure that youths are gainfully employed during the summer break, the youth arm will be actively canvasing organisations in both in the Private and Public Sectors seeking summer employment. The youth arm has attracted approximately 2000 new members over the last four months. The party continues to work with its political partners and other stakeholder groups in preparation for General Elections in 2015.
