Walcott to get T&T's highest award?

The Order of Trinidad & Tobago
Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott is likely to be given Trinidad & Tobago's highest award - the Order of Trinidad & Tobago.

There is a precedent for this kind of recognition for outstanding sports personalities.

Brian Lara was given the Trinity Cross, the predecessor award to the Order of T&T, and the country's first Olympic Gold winner, Hasely Crawford, was also given the Trinity Cross.

Other sports personalities to get national awards were:

  • Members of the national relay team, which won silver at the Beijing Olympics: Darrel Browne, Emmanuel Callender, Keston Bledman, Marc Burns and Richard Thompson - Chaconia Gold.
  • Swimmer George Bovell got the Chaconia Gold for his bronze medal performance in the 200-metre individual medley at the Athens Olympics.
  • Sprinter Ato Boldon also got the Chaconia Gold for winning bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics 100m sprint and silver in the 200-metre
There is speculation that all members of the team that represented T&T at the London games inb 2012 would received national awards.
