Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is hosting a gala event on September 3 to celebrate the athletes who represented Trinidad & Tobago at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The athletes put in the country's best ever performance, bringing home one Gold and three Bronze medals. Persad-Bissessar has already announced significant gifts for Gold medalist Keshorn Walcott, 19, of Toco.
At the event in September Persad-Bissessar will announce rewards for the others who participated in the Games. Sports Minister Anil Roberts told local media the government will honour all 31 athletes who participated in the Games.
The minister said officials from the Chef de Mission to the coaches will also be honoured appropriately.
"The managers, the coaches, the executive representing the NGBs, which is shooting, swimming, cycling, track and field and sailing. On September 3rd, she (persad-Bissessar) will let the nation know what the Bronze Medalists will be getting."
He added, "The Government, the Sportt Company, the Ministry, we are ensuring right now that tickets, return tickets from where ever our athletes are, because many of them are still competing away at the Golden League Gala in Europe, some have returned to their Universities, and we are ensuring that we get them tickets to get here for September 3rd."
