Robinson, 85, was Trinidad & Tobago's third president. He held office from 19 March 1997 to 17 March 2003. He was also the country's third Prime Minister, holding office from 18 December 1986 to 17 December 1991.
In a media release Monday night Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar expressed deep concern upon learning of the sudden hospitalisation of former Robinson at the St Clair Medical Centre.
Persad-Bissessar is in Jamaica for that country’s Golden Jubilee of Independence celebrations, as a guest of the Jamaican Government
The release stated: "The Prime Minister sends her prayers and heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the former President and extends her full support to his family."
