PM Kamla leaves for Jamaica to attend 50th anniversary independence celebration; Jack will act as PM

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar leaves for Kingston, Jamaica Sunday to attend Jamaica's 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations as a guest of Jamaican Prime Minister the Honourable Portia Simpson-Miller. Jamaica's independence day is Monday August 6.

While in Jamaica the Prime Minister will participate in several official functions, including a State dinner hosted by the Governor General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Allen, in honour of the President of the Republic of South Africa the Honourable Jacob Zuma. 


Persad Bissessar will also participate in a tour of the Jubilee Village at the National Stadium and attend the Independence Gala. She is also scheduled to attend the unveiling of a plaque at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus to mark the auspicious occasion.

She returns home on Wednesday afternoon. National Security Minister Jack Warner will act as Prime Minister while Persad Bissessar is away.
