Olympians help distribute hampers for flood victims; daily motorcades next week to cover whole country

Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott and members of the Olympic team helped deliver food hampers Thursday to hundreds of flood victims in Diego Martin and Carenage.

The project was organised by the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of the People and Ministry of Sport, with the Olympians moving through the communities in a motorcade.


Walcott stopped to visit the St Micheal Boys' School along the Diego Martin Main Road and jumped off a truck to meet and greet fans as he handed out flags to the young boys from the school. He signed autographs and posing for pictures with some of the boys before getting back on the truck.

Local councillors selected the people to receive the hampers, which the Olympians distributed with the aid of volunteers. 

The motorcades will continue in different communities until August 24 according to the following schedule:
  • Monday   - Tobago 
  • Tuesday  -  Siparia Regional Corporation, Point Fortin Borough and Penal/Debe Regional Corporation
  • Wednesday -  Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Corporation, Borough of Chaguanas, San Fernando City Corporation
  • Thursday - Rio Claro, Mayaro and Princes Town Regional Corporations
  • Friday - Tunaapuna Piarco Regional Corporation, Laventille Regional Corporation and Port of Spain City Corporation
