The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is providing temporary accommodation for 23 Diego Martin families whose homes were severely damaged in recent floods.
John also told local media the HDC has sent out 52 temporary employees to help families in clean and restore their homes.
HDC Chief Executive Officer Jearlean John on Friday handed the families keys to homes in Oropune Gardens, Piarco. She told reporters more than 100 families have been affected but the HDC is not able to help everyone.
She also stated that handing these homes to the people from Diego Martin would set back the HDC plans to deliver homes to those who have been waiting 20 years or more. However she said the HDC felt it was proper to respond to the disaster.

With respect to the families who have received homes in Oropune, John said they would be able to stay there for an initial three-month period, after which the HDC would conduct an evaluation to determine whether there is a need for them to stay there with a mortgage or rental agreement.
