Anil Roberts was one of the people who protested the construction of a smelter in Chatham in 2005.
And the Sports Minister and member of the Congress of the People (COP) has said as an environmental activist he stands firm on his belief and has vowed to resign "if my government says they are going to build a smelter".
SO now Roberts is asking his environmental activist colleague Wayne Kublalsingh to explain his reasoning about about the alternative route suggested for the highway to Point Fortin.
"How come it is that he would like to re-route the highway, a four-lane highway, through the Oropouche West lagoon.

"Did he consider what the environmental impact would be?" Roberts asked, noting that the construction of a highway through the Oropouche West lagoon would destroy flora, fauna and several species of animals.
"I am not understanding. Could he please explain that to the population because it seems that (he) is fighting something other than an environmental issue.
"Is he a politician? Is he with Roget just to bring down the government or to get another government in power? He is not making sense, he is an environmentalist. I am one too, so let him please explain to the population how he can justify suggesting going through the swamp," he told the Express newspaper.
