UDeCOTT vice-chairman "taken aback" by allegations against Calder hart

Dr Krishna Bahadoorsingh
The former vice-chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) told the Express newspaper Wednesday board members were not aware of many of the decisions taken by former executive chairman Calder Hart.
Dr Krishna Bahadoorsingh was commenting on the civil lawsuit filed by UDeCOTT against Hart. The legal action cites breach of Hart's fiduciary duties with respect to the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) and the Legal Affairs Tower.

Bahadoorsingh described the stadium project as a "national shame" and told the paper "legal action must be taken against any person accused of wrongdoing".

He said UDeCOTT directors had raised questions with respect to the two projects but accepted Hart's word as truth. He added that if he was aware of corruption and breaches taking place he "would have resigned immediately."

He said, "I am taken aback by what I am reading now...if there's truth to it, then the law should take its place."

Another former UDeCOTT director, Michael Annisette, told the Express, "Let the parties have their day in court and the court will determine that, no one else is allowed to pronounce guilt or innocence on anyone, a person is innocent until proven guilty."

He did not wish to be drawn into a discussion about the allegations against Hart. "Let the process take its place," he said. "We need to respect that fundamental principle of law and not engage in speculation."
