The President of the Joint Consultative Council for the Construction Industry on Wednesday said the Government has broken a key election promise to implement the recommendations of Uff report into UDeCOTT and the construction sector.
Afra Raymond made the point at a media conference. "We are directly asking the Prime Minister: what is the reason for the delays?" Raymond asked. "The Uff recommendations do not need a parliamentary majority," he added.
Raymond called for proper legislation and the immediate establishment of a working party to oversee and implement the Uff report recommendations.
"We want civil society participation in the work permit process to monitor the importing of workers that add to our unemployment," he said.
Raymond said he has a meeting on Friday with Justice Minister Herbert Volney to discuss the matter of the UFF report. Volney has the responsibility to implement the recommendations of the report.
