Trinidad and Tobago's International Trade Minister Stephen Cadiz on Monday signed a US$65 million agreement with Bredero Shaw Middle East Limited, an energy services company.
Bredero Shaw's website describes the company as the global leader in pipe coating solutions.
"With more than 80 years of experience, the largest team of dedicated pipe coating professionals, the most extensive network of strategically located plants worldwide and with proven innovative coating technologies, the company has protected more pipelines in virtually every environment and operating condition than anyone in the industry," the website claims.
Cadiz and the Project Manager of Bredero Shaw, Noel Corcoran, signed the one year agreement that will see the establishment of a pipe concrete coating facility and storage yard at the Industrial Estate at La Brea.
The minister said this initiative is one in a series that will lead to increased benefits for the economy and the people of this country.
"In the coming weeks, we are going to see roughly about another two to three million US dollars of different investments but between two and three million US dollars finally being able to sign off. Again, this is from many months of discussion," Cadiz said.
He said there are ongoing discussions with other investors for projects which, when signed, will see a total investment of US$1 billion in this country.
Cadiz added that since the removal of the Free Zone cap in 2010, investments have significantly increased in this country.
Corcoran said the local labour will benefit since the company plans to but its raw material in Trinidad.
