Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan issued a statement on Monday correcting a media report about statements attributed to her with respect to the recently concluded internal election of the United National Congress (UNC).
The statement from the Minister of Public Administration and MP for San Fernando West is published below:
I wish to categorically state that to this date I have not accused the Prime Minister or any of my Cabinet and Parliamentary colleagues of corruption.
The report which implies that these accusations were made by me is wholly inaccurate and misleading.
Some of my colleagues have responded to a headline which was taken out of context as the article specifically relates to an allegation of someone voting in the UNC internal election, possibly using a membership card carrying my name.
Bearing in mind that I publicly resigned from the UNC in 2006, I stated that it would be an act of impropriety and corruption in the internal electoral process if there was any truth to that allegation of my name having appeared on the electoral list, and registered as having voted.
It is unfortunate that the sensational headline, which in itself is misleading, is the subject of public comment.
