Fellow citizens, today we here in Trinidad and Tobago join the rest of the world in celebrating resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ after he was put to death on Good Friday.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ died so that the sins of all mankind may be forgiven. The story of Easter is a story of hope. Hope in a Savior who paid the price for our sins and hope for a better future and eternal life.
Today in Trinidad and Tobago, we face many challenges which seem to threaten our very future.
Today in Trinidad and Tobago, we face many challenges which seem to threaten our very future.
Many people are lamenting feelings of hopelessness and disenchantment. Countless citizens are hurting because of the stagnant economy, spiralling crime, loss of faith in established institutions and even loss of confidence in certain leaders.
While I acknowledge there is much cause for such concern, I also call upon all citizens to engage in sober reflection at this time of Easter.
Let us all acknowledge the hope Christ's death and resurrection gave to mankind and let us hold to the hope that Trinidad and Tobago will overcome its challenges.
Fellow citizens, we can ill afford to lose hope. Hope must inspire us to wake up everyday, face our challenges, put that which is wrong right and take the necessary steps to build our nation and eradicate hopelessness.
On behalf of the leadership and members of the People's National Movement, I wish all our citizens a happy and holy Easter.
